What we believe

Camp Berean Way is a ministry of Calvary Chapel, a non-denominational church in Jackson Township.  We believe that every person is separated from God by their sin, but through Jesus Christ’s death on the cross and resurrection, we can receive forgiveness for our sins and have eternal life in heaven.  Salvation is by grace through faith alone.  There’s no amount of good deeds or rituals that you can do to earn your way to heaven.  The only way is to believe in Jesus!  And that’s what we teach the kids at CBW.  Ephesians 2:8 and 9, all the way.  Every camper will hear this message, we guarantee it.  And while we never push for kids to accept Christ or make a profession of faith against their will, we do encourage them to evaluate their own spiritual condition and to decide for themselves what they are going to do with Jesus and the free gift of salvation that He is offering them.

Because our mission is to make sure every camper hears about God’s free gift of salvation and to strengthen those already walking with Him, Bible teaching is THE priority at Camp Berean Way.  Your child will be involved in two chapel sessions a day.  These start with singing and continue with teaching that is targeted just for your child’s age group and understanding.  Our teachers work very hard on their lessons, to make them exciting, interactive, and comprehensible.  Ask any CBW camper — chapel is not just sitting through a sermon.  It’s about hearing the Lord speak to YOU!  And when a kid is away from home, unplugged from the TV and the internet, and involved with kids and adults who have real relationships with Jesus Christ, they are way more in tune with their own soul and spirit, more responsive to the God who is knocking on the door of their heart, hoping to be asked in!  We continue the spiritual emphasis with nightly counselor-led devotions and with our campfire programs.  Many, many campers come to CBW after years of going to church with their families, going to youth group, going to Christian school, but at camp they come to realization that their salvation won’t come by borrowing their parents’ faith or by being in Christian environments — they need to make it their own.

Here’s Calvary Chapel’s doctrinal statement:

The Bible:  I believe that the entire Bible in its original writings is verbally inspired of God, and is of plenary authority.  (II Timothy 3:16-17; II Peter 1:21)

The Godhead:  I believe that there is one God, eternally existing in three persons – Father, son, and Holy Spirit.  (Deuteronomy 6:4; Matthew 28:19-20; John 10:30)

The Lord Jesus Christ:  I believe that the Lord Jesus Christ was begotten by the Holy Spirit and born of the Virgin Mary and is true God and true man.  (Luke 1:35; Isaiah 9:6; John 1:1; Philippians 2:6-9)

Total Depravity:  I believe that all men, by nature, are dead in trespasses and sins; and therefore, are totally unable to make themselves acceptable unto God.  (Ephesians 2:1-3; Romans 8:7-8)

Redemption:  I believe that man can be redeemed from the consequences of sin only through the voluntary, propitiatory death of the Lord Jesus Christ upon the Cross of Calvary; and that His blood accomplished, once and for all, complete redemption.  (Ephesians 1:7; Hebrews 10:10, 12, 14)

Salvation:  I believe that man by faith receives salvation and that it is a gift apart from works.  I believe that the man who trusts in the substitutionary death of Jesus Christ is justified freely by God’s grace.  (Romans 3:24-25; 4:5; Ephesians 2:8-9; Titus 3:5)

Believer’s Walk:  I believe that as a Christian I should seek to walk worthily of the Lord and that I should consciously endeavor to manifest htat quality of life that truly pleases and glorifies God.  (Romans 13:12-14; Ephesians 5:1-17; I Thessalonians 4:1)

The Holy Spirit:  I believe that the Holy Spirit is a person who convicts the world of sin, and who regenerates, baptizes, indwells, enlightens,  and empowers the saved.  (John 16:8; I Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 1:13,17,18; 3:16)

The Church:  I believe that in the present dispensation there is only one Bible Church which is called the Body of Christ, having a membership composed of all the saved.  (I Corinthians 12:13; Ephesians 1:22-23; 3:1-6)

Mission:  I believe that the mission of the Church is to preach the Gospel of the Grace of God in order that God may take out from among the nations a people for His Name.  (Acts 15:14; 20:24; Romans 1:1-5)

Resurrection:  I believe that the Lord Jesus Christ was resurrected bodily from the dead, and that He will raise from the dead both the just and the unjust; the just to resurrection unto life and the unjust to resurrection unto condemnation.  (John 20:24-29; Acts 24:15; I Corinthians 15:4-18; John 5:29)

The Second Coming of Christ:  I believe that the second coming of Christ will be personal, visible, and glorious.  (John 14:3; Acts 1:11; Philippians 3:20-21; Colossians 3:4)
